Cardinal Robert Prevost, from the United States was elected the 267th successor to Saint Peter, making history as the first American pope. Though an American, he served extensively in Peru, working as a parish pastor, seminary teacher, and diocesan official. He was then elected the head of the Augustinian Province of Chicago serving as head of the order until 2013.
